🍂 Fall & Fitness: Embracing Change
Every year around this time, I notice my routine shifts. If I don’t plan for it, it’s so easy to stall out. Here’s what helps me stay consistent and grounded through the darker, colder months:
Adjusting my workouts – I move my training indoors when the weather turns. That means hopping on the bike trainer or heading to the gym instead of relying on outdoor workouts.
Keeping a steady wake-up time – Even though mornings are darker, a consistent wake-up supports my circadian rhythm, energy, and mood.
Supporting my body with nutrients – Less sunlight = less vitamin D, so I add in a supplement along with extra omegas to keep my mood and brain sharp.
Building accountability – I stay committed to movement by putting things on my calendar that involve other people: a walk with a friend, yoga class, or boot camp mornings. Having something I look forward to—and people expecting me—keeps me on track.
Embracing the weather – Living in Washington means rain and gray skies. Instead of letting that stop me, I pull out my raincoat, warm gear, headlamp, and even my puppies. Once I’m out in it, the fresh air is often invigorating.
These small shifts help me push through the season when it’s easy to feel unmotivated, distracted, or fatigued.
