Our Summer Day Retreat was a beautifully orchestrated day filled with nature, movement, nourishment, and practical wisdom. Here's a glimpse into the memorable experiences we shared:
Morning Nature Walk: We began our day with a sunshiney nature walk, leading us to a tranquil rose garden. Each participant chose their favorite rose, holding its image in mind to reflect on later. This mindful practice set a peaceful and introspective tone for the day.
Movement Session with Lindsay: Lindsay's movement session was a true highlight. She guided us through an immersive experience of connecting with ourselves and each other through movement, breath, play, and gratitude. We danced, played, and moved outdoors, stretching our bodies, walking, clapping, and grooving. Partner work and mirroring exercises brought a sense of belonging and appreciation for our bodies. The session concluded with a body gratitude practice and journaling, allowing us to reflect on and share our body affirmations and gratitudes.
Summer Nourishment with Karin: Karin shared her expertise on summer nourishment, emphasizing the importance of aligning our eating habits with the natural rhythms of the seasons. She highlighted the vibrant energy of summer and the abundance of fresh, hydrating foods that nature provides. Karin encouraged mindful eating and explored the concept of food freedom, helping us move from fear-based to trust-based food choices. Her session was rich with practical tips and wisdom on incorporating local, seasonal foods into our diets.
Routine Building with Katie: Katie wrapped up the day with insights on building effective routines. She delved into the science of willpower and the role of discomfort in personal growth. Katie's session was filled with actionable strategies to embrace challenges, leverage discomfort as a growth opportunity, and develop routines that align with our values and goals. Her practical tools and motivational guidance left everyone feeling empowered to make positive changes in their daily lives.
Lunch: A Celebration of Local Flavors: Our lunch was a delightful feast, featuring a summer spinach salad with local berries, homemade sourdough bread, and jams from Whidbey Island. This meal showcased the simplicity and joy of enjoying delicious, local, native, and seasonal foods, reinforcing the day's theme of nourishment and connection to our environment.
Our Summer Day Retreat was a wonderful reminder of the power of community, the beauty of nature, and the importance of nourishing both body and mind. We left feeling refreshed, inspired, and deeply connected, eagerly looking forward to our next gathering.
