Training for the Hills and Embracing Chilly Mornings
Week in Review + This Week's Plan: Mt. Elinor Prep 🏔️
Hi everyone! Last week was a great one. I got in time with family, good food, and plenty of movement:
Walking and light jogging
A very hard gravel bike ride
One heavy lifting day
A Sunday hike up Granite Mountain: 8 miles and 4,000 ft of gain
We're about three weeks from Mt. Elinor, so this week's focus is elevation gain and strength. The goal is at least one uphill hike with about 3,000 ft of steep climbing. If you don't have a mountain nearby, you can get the same benefit from:
Walks that include 4 or 5 good 300 to 400 ft climbs
One hill on repeat
Stairs at the gym, a stairclimber, or stadium stairs
For Katie ♡
This week's training plan
Monday: Row and recover
Tuesday: Morning run at Dupont
Wednesday: Boot camp and heavy lifting, then 15 minutes of stairclimber HIIT intervals
Thursday: Indoor cycle
Friday: Boot camp or hot yoga (choose yoga if your legs are tired)
Saturday: Hike a hill or bike a hill, ideally with a buddy
Food: back to basics
Fresh, farm-to-table eating, with less picking and more real meals from the garden. Think tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini and green peppers, plus soups, stir fry, tofu and chicken.
Modify anything to fit your level. The point is to show up, move a little more than last week, and feel strong at the top of Elinor at the end of October. Tell me how your training is going in the comments! 💪

Love reading about folks' journeys and wins here! ❤️
Been sick this week. Pray, eat, work, sleep, repeat. Appreciate the ability to pause with movement to make room for rest. Knowing it's not forever, just right now. 🙏🏻
