See you Sunday for a Hike
Monday Planning: Routines, Discipline & Getting Back to What Works
Good morning!
I was away for the weekend, and even with the change in routine, I was able to knock out a few runs. It reminded me that routines don’t have to be perfect to be powerful.
For me, discipline isn’t about doing everything exactly right. It’s about knowing what matters to me and continuing to come back to it.
This week, my physical priorities are weights, adding mileage, and preparing my legs for hiking and trail running.
This Week’s Movement
Monday: Bootcamp + 2-mile track runTuesday: DuPont trails — 3 milesWednesday: Bootcamp + extra heavy leg weightsThursday: Mt. Walker or another Olympic Peninsula hikeFriday: Bootcamp + bike — or possibly just a good bike rideSaturday: Mima Falls run/walk — 7 milesSunday: 7 AM sunrise hike with Hartsspace
But the bigger discipline I’m working on this week may actually be mental.
I want to take 15 minutes every day to meditate, clear my mind, and intentionally think about how I want to move through my day. I’m doing that right now as I plan the week.
There is something powerful about starting the day by deciding where I want my attention to go rather than simply reacting to everything that comes at me.
Food Planning: A Low-Cost Pantry Week
After being away, I’m craving simple, clean food from home — and I also want this to be a low-cost pantry week.
My garden is producing zucchini. A LOT of zucchini.
So I’m going to make a huge zucchini bake using zucchini from the garden, a few rigatoni noodles, ground beef, and all of the beautiful orange mini tomatoes I have growing.
Simple. Nourishing. Already here.
I’ll also be focusing on plenty of fiber, vegetables, and protein shakes throughout the week.
This is another kind of discipline: looking at what I already have before buying more, planning ahead, and making the healthy choice the easy choice.
Routines give me a framework. Discipline helps me return to that framework when life interrupts it. And flexibility allows me to change the plan without abandoning the intention.
That’s my plan for the week.
How is your health planning going?
What are you prioritizing this week — movement, food, sleep, mindfulness, recovery, or something completely different?
Take a few minutes today and make a plan. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to give you a direction.

Katie ~ You expressed it so well. Routines for me are the baseline I get to return to, home base. Life gets lifey and its easy to get harried...medtation, movement, recovery, good nutrients, and Beloveds (the routine) are resorative. Prioritizing them make me available for the rest of the fun!
